Health Promotion and Community Development
Health Promotion is the science and art of working within communities to create the conditions for health.
The Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion outlines key actions for achieving health for all. Health promotion can include any of these activities:
- Strengthening community action
- Building healthy public policy
- Creating supportive environments
- Developing personal skills
- Reorienting the health system
Community Development
Community development involves changing the relationships between ordinary people and people in positions of power. This helps individuals to address the issues that impact their community.
At Grand River CHC, health promotion and community development staff work alongside community members. We support local programs, initiatives, and collective action to promote wellbeing.
To learn more about the priorities in our community check out the Community Wellbeing Survey 2024.
